The VTMS project involved the installation of various sensors and equipment, such as radars, AIS, CCTV, RDF, GMDSS, weather stations and communication systems. The VTMS also included a control center with several operator stations and a recording system. The VTMS covers an area of about 100 nautical miles around LPC and provides real-time information on vessel traffic, navigation conditions, weather data and security alerts.
The main benefits of the VTMS for LPC are:

The VTMS has improved the performance of LPC as a port and has increased its competitiveness in the regional and global market. The VTMS has also contributed to the development of Nigeria’s maritime sector and its integration with other modes of transport.
