The natural environment is a simple combination of living and non-living things where both affect the actions of the human. The natural environment should be considered at all stages of construction, however it should be thought of more at the planning stage as there is more time to look into how much each factor will be affected by a potential development. The natural environment needs to be protected and several legislation and standards have been put in place to help, this has is to assure the environment WILL be protected. The factors that need to be considered in planning stage include the following:Air quality; during the construction of buildings, the chance of the production of gases and dust into the air is very high.

Due to increased pollution in the sites area, surrounding habitats including animals and plants may take a downwards effect in the circumstances of their own health therefore this certain factor should be controlled to try and minimise or prevent the high chance of this happening.

Furthermore, the emission of gases such as carbon dioxide to the environment may increase global warming which as the potential take away thousands of habitats. Factors such as population size and the geographical location of my chosen site will have an effect on the maintenance of good air quality.Soil quality; there are hundreds of geographical locations where I could have had my site and more or less, each soil type would have been different. The soil quality determines how a construction will be built, so it will not carry any imperfections or implications into the future. Natural drainage will also greatly depend on the soil type and the landscape. Clay soil tends to have a lower infiltration rate leaving a lot of water onto of the soil while sandy soil has a higher infiltration rate and will allow water to percolate through it freely.

Green belt land refers to an area that is kept in reserve for an open space, most often around larger cities. The main purpose of the green belt policy is to protect the land around larger urban centres from urban sprawl, and maintain the designated area for forestry and agriculture as well as to provide habitat to wildlife. They are excluded from constructions and are required to remain as natural as possible. These are areas that should be taken into consideration.Natural amenities are facilities that exist in the environment naturally. They include facilities such as lakes, rivers, mountains, natural forests and fenlands. These areas provide food, habitat, serene environment and even a sporting area for human beings, animals and plants as well.

Lakes and rivers are a source of water to living things.The ozone layer protects the harmful UV rays of the sun from reaching the earth. Therefore its quality has to be maintained. Exposure to UV has adverse effects to human being and that is why the depletion of the ozone layer has to be avoided by all means. Constructions sites tend to release gases such as chlorofluorocarbons which cause the depletion of the layer and this should considered when planning.
