I attended DancePlus show On Friday December 2, 2011 at 7:30pm at night. It was performed in the Victoria K. Mastrobounno Theater in New Brunswick, New Jersey. There were four different parts that I saw that day. All of the dances were very interesting and very different from each other. All of the dances had its own unique key factor that separated it from each other. I enjoyed the entire show very well. Out of all the dances I had strong reaction to “Lapa’s Lament”.
I believe this specific dance stood out to me compared to the other dances from the show.

The costumes looked very comfortable on the dancers. When I saw the piece, named, “Lapa’s Lament, I thought it was very unique and interesting. When the dancers were doing several movements with it, I got very confused. As a result, this confusion caused me to draw all the attention towards the dancer and to their performance. After a dance progresses, dancers were trying to tell a story with their movements. I think some of the dance movements, they were doing was very fascinating to watch.
As a result, I was trying to make the whole story in my mind, as it was very unclear for me, what they were doing, but when Randy James came and talk little bit about the dance, I would able to understand what the dance is about. The way his dancers performed by showing their emotions, I thought it was incredibly performed. I felt that this dance was not losing its limelight throughout the performance. That is, the way they were communicating with each other through their body language and physical contact was just amazing.
It shows their effort, as the dance steps included twisting and tumbling. Some of the dance steps, I have never saw in any of the dance companies who came to performed. I felt the dance was full of body movements, and I thought it would require a lot of physical strength to perform this kind of dance. In addition, I also believed that their chemistry was incredibly powerful, as a result they were complementing with each other. Their co-ordination was interesting to watch. I believe there were twenty five dancers, and they were all wearing different cloths by changing music.
Though it seemed like they were all wearing active wears it seemed like each dancers was on different levels. First part of Lapa’s dance was like a slow starting music. It included all the dancers. I felt like they all came together and spread out on the stage as the dance went on. They all started doing different steps from each other. That dance out of all the other dances was full of energy because all the dancers were involved in that specific dance. One of the dances that I remembered was with all females. That was a very strange dance that I have ever seen.

All female dancers were coming one by one with wearing bikinis. One female dancer put her feet down on stage. Their coordination was very interesting to watch. One of the other dance was very elegant was when the three were two female dancers and a male dancer. Male dancers was picking up in girl in way that it looked like she was climbing on the other female dancer. That dance looked like very effortless. They did several steps with this concept and created a very brilliant dance. It would be very hard for all the three dancers to mover together.
Moreover, this performance was very alive compared to all other dances in the show. The music was also fun and energy. All the moves were energetic and very fast moves. The dancers were constantly moving around and I think that required lot energy. I felt like moving along with them because the music was very catchy. The music had nice rhythm with drums playing and when dancers did their moves it made the stage very alive. The vibration and environment that was created by combination of music and dance moves was an amazing experience.
I would always remember this performance and specially this dance. Hence, I can proudly say that Dance Plus was very unique and very well-choreographed, comparison to the other concerts. I was very thrilled and shocked when I saw the performances of the dancers. Especially, Lapa’s Lament dance, as it was describing Randy way of thinking in life through his performances. Moreover, it was not losing the limelight throughout the performance as the coordination, dance steps were really amazing. Thus, I can say that it was an awesome and strong performance given by the dancers of Randy’s company.
