Examples of outcome measures include the percentage of patients with diabetes whose blood sugar is under control, Surgical mortality rates, and complications resulting from the surgeries. While outcome measures are reliably used to indicate the quality of health care, the results are often subject to various unaccounted factors such as population compositions and health status of the patients. Therefore, risk adjustment methods are used for more accurate results relating to the quality of health care.
Some other measures used to assess the quality of health care include patient’s experience measures and access measures. However, these two measures are not as widely used and are sometimes integrated under the Donabedian model.
