In the readings on Family by Joel Moraco
1) In the readings on Family by Joel Moraco, the author mentions several characteristics of the modern family which have evolved along with modernization and social-cultural progression. For instance, the traditional divisions of labor, family roles, marital expectations, incidence and attitudes towards divorce, gender roles, and societal and cultural norms. Briefly describe any TWO of these modern trends. Why do you consider these trends to be most interesting and why?
Be sure to cite your work using APA format. If you have questions about APA format, refer to the “APA Style Resources” module posted in the classroom.
2) In order to make this course relevant to your interests and needs, please identify 2-3 questions about parenting that you would like to have answered by the end of the course.

Two modern trends in the characteristics of the family are the changing attitudes towards divorce and the evolving gender roles within families.
a) Changing attitudes towards divorce: In the past, divorce was generally stigmatized and viewed as a last resort. However, with modernization and social-cultural progression, attitudes towards divorce have shifted. According to Moraco (year), divorce rates have increased significantly in recent decades, and divorce is now more commonly accepted and seen as a viable option to end an unhappy or dysfunctional marriage. This trend is interesting because it reflects the changing values and expectations within society. The increased acceptance of divorce suggests that individuals have greater agency in determining their own happiness and well-being within relationships.
b) Evolving gender roles: Traditional gender roles assigned specific duties and responsibilities to men and women within the family. However, with modernization and increased gender equality, gender roles within families have become more fluid and flexible. Men and women now have more freedom to choose their roles based on their interests, abilities, and preferences. For example, women are increasingly participating in the workforce, and men are taking on more domestic responsibilities. This trend is interesting because it challenges traditional notions of gender and highlights the importance of equality and mutual support within families.
I consider these trends to be the most interesting because they reflect significant societal shifts and have important implications for individuals and families. The changing attitudes towards divorce demonstrate a greater emphasis on personal happiness and individual autonomy within relationships. The evolving gender roles highlight the ongoing progress towards gender equality and the dismantling of restrictive stereotypes. These trends have the potential to reshape the dynamics and functioning of families in meaningful ways.
