VETS1030: One Health Assignment
VETS1030: One Health Assignment – Medical Science Assignment Help
Assignment Task
Learning Objectives
On completion of this assessment task, students will demonstrate that they can:
Critically evaluate factual information relating to One Health topics
Describe the key messages or themes within scientific publications
Reflect on One Health related facts and themes to optimally communicate them to the public.
Part 1: Why is my disease a One Health problem?
Component A: Health Impacts
What are the biological properties of the pathogen of your topic?
What are the epidemiological characteristics of the infection caused by the pathogen of your scenario?
Describe and discuss what measures of disease frequency underpin your One Health topic?
What is the estimated burden of disease in humans caused by the pathogen of your scenario?
Component B: Factors driving exposure to infection
Describe the factors that determine the occurrence of disease in the different hosts
For each host species involved in the infection cycle of your topic please identify, discuss and justify which risk factors can be considered as Necessary, Sufficient and Component causes
Organise the risk factors you identified in a Causal Diagram and briefly discuss the relationships between them.
Component C: Critical appraisal of evidence
Why is the disease caused by your pathogen a One Health problem?
How would you estimate a combined One Health metric for your scenario?
Part 2: What are the best approaches to control and prevent my One Health disease topic?
Component A: Strategic programs for disease control
Describe and discuss what agencies of animal, human and environmental health systems manage your One Health topic?
What policy regulations enable the different animal, human and environmental health agencies to act on the One Health scenario?
How is information on disease events being managed by and between each health system?
Component B: Disease control strategies
Outline the main control and prevention strategies of your One Health scenario in Animal populations, Human populations Environment health (physical, climatic and social)
Referring to the Causal Diagram in Part 1 of the Assignment Describe and show on the diagram how the main control and prevention strategies outlined above affected different links and nodes of your causal diagram.
Identify where the control and prevention strategies you identified will impact on the Susceptible, Exposed, Infected and Recovered (SEIR) populations of your One Health scenario.
Component C: Critical appraisal of evidence
Rank and discuss the relative importance of the control and prevention strategies identified in Component B.
In your opinion what are the key issues and challenges for multi-party collaboration for your One Health scenario?
This VETS1030-Medical Science Assignment
is focused on exploring the One Health approach in relation to a specific disease topic. The assignment is divided into two parts, with each part having three components.
Part 1 of the assignment focuses on why the chosen disease is a One Health problem. Component A requires the student to describe the biological properties of the pathogen of their topic and discuss the epidemiological characteristics of the infection caused by the pathogen. The student is also required to describe the measures of disease frequency and estimate the burden of the disease in humans caused by the pathogen.
Component B focuses on the factors driving exposure to infection. The student needs to describe the factors that determine the occurrence of the disease in different hosts and identify the risk factors for each host species involved in the infection cycle. The student is also required to organize the risk factors identified in a causal diagram and briefly discuss the relationships between them.
Component C of Part 1 requires the student to critically appraise the evidence and discuss why the disease caused by their pathogen is a One Health problem. The student also needs to estimate a combined One Health metric for their scenario.
Part 2 of the assignment focuses on the best approaches to control and prevent the chosen One Health disease topic. Component A requires the student to describe the agencies of animal, human, and environmental health systems that manage their One Health topic. The student also needs to discuss the policy regulations that enable the different health agencies to act on the One Health scenario and how information on disease events is managed between each health system.
Component B focuses on disease control strategies. The student needs to outline the main control and prevention strategies for the One Health scenario in animal populations, human populations, and environmental health. The student also needs to describe how the control and prevention strategies affect different links and nodes of their causal diagram and identify where the strategies impact the susceptible, exposed, infected, and recovered populations of their One Health scenario.
