You’ve learned the ten tenets of the Afrocentric perspective. Among these ten tenets, choose Humanisitic Value or Universalistic and Particularistic to apply it to your research. If you choose Humanisitic value, you need to elaborate how your research address or advance equity, fairness, social and economic justice issues. If you choose Universalistic and Particularistic, you can explain how the problems in your research is unique to African Americans as well as common across all racial groups.

I choose the tenet of Humanistic Value to apply to my research. This tenet emphasizes the importance of promoting equity, fairness, and social and economic justice for all people, particularly those who have been historically marginalized and oppressed. In my research, I am investigating the impact of discriminatory hiring practices on African American job seekers.

The Humanistic Value tenet is important in my research because it highlights the need to address systemic injustices that prevent African Americans from accessing employment opportunities. Discriminatory hiring practices such as racial bias, stereotypes, and prejudice contribute to the perpetuation of economic disparities, poverty, and social inequality for African Americans.

By applying the Humanistic Value tenet, I aim to identify ways to address these discriminatory practices and promote fairness and equity in hiring processes. This may include advocating for policies that require employers to undergo implicit bias training, increasing diversity in hiring teams, and improving transparency in the hiring process.

Furthermore, the Humanistic Value tenet emphasizes the importance of centering the experiences and perspectives of those who have been historically marginalized in research. As an Afrocentric researcher, I am committed to amplifying the voices of African American job seekers and providing a platform for their experiences and stories.
