In the Old Testament, there are laws
In the Old Testament, there are laws that regulate the moral, social, and religious life of the Israelites. These laws are often called the Mosaic law, because they were given through Moses, who mediated the covenant between God and his people at Mount Sinai. The Mosaic law consists of three types of laws: moral, civil, and ceremonial.
Moral laws are the universal and timeless principles that reflect God's character and will. They include the Ten Commandments, which summarize the basic obligations of humans toward God and their fellow human beings. Moral laws are still binding for Christians today, as they reveal God's moral standards and guide us to live in a way that pleases him.

Civil laws are the specific regulations that applied to the Israelites as a nation in their historical and cultural context. They include laws about crimes, punishments, property, inheritance, family, marriage, slavery, warfare, etc. Civil laws are not directly applicable to Christians today, as they were designed for a particular people in a particular situation. However, they still have value for us, as they illustrate how the moral laws were applied in a concrete way and how God cared for his people's welfare.
Ceremonial laws are the rules that governed the worship and rituals of the Israelites. They include laws about sacrifices, offerings, festivals, priesthood, temple, purity, etc. Ceremonial laws are not binding for Christians today, as they were fulfilled by Christ's death and resurrection. Christ is the ultimate sacrifice who atoned for our sins once and for all. He is also our high priest who intercedes for us before God. He is our Passover lamb who delivers us from slavery to sin. He is our temple who dwells among us by his Spirit.
The Mosaic law is an important part of God's revelation in the Old Testament. It shows us God's holiness, justice, grace, and love. It also shows us our sinfulness, guilt, and need for forgiveness. It points us to Christ, who is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes (Romans 10:4).
