Core Functions of Public Health and Activities of Community Health Nurse:
a. The three core functions of public health are assessment, policy development, and assurance.
i. Assessment: The systematic and continuous collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data essential for planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practices. A community health nurse can conduct health assessments of individuals, families, and communities to identify their health needs and risks, develop appropriate interventions and evaluate outcomes.
ii. Policy Development: The process by which communities prioritize health problems, develop policies, and allocate resources to address them. A community health nurse can be involved in identifying the health policies and advocating for health policies and regulations that support community health.
iii. Assurance: The role of public health to ensure the provision of services to meet public health needs. A community health nurse can conduct health promotion, disease prevention activities, provide immunizations, and ensure access to healthcare services for individuals, families, and communities.

b. Component of the Calgary Assessment Model: Structural Assessment – examines the structure, composition, and function of the family.
c. Strategies for developing an interview guide to elicit subjective (qualitative) data:
i. Start with open-ended questions that allow the interviewee to express themselves freely and fully.
ii. Use follow-up questions to gather additional information and clarify responses. (Wright & Bell, 2009)
Article on Video Conferencing as a Tool to Deliver Telehealth:
The article “Video conferencing in telehealth: A review of the literature” by Caffery et al. (2015) provides a comprehensive review of the literature on video conferencing as a tool to deliver telehealth. The authors highlight that video conferencing is a feasible and effective tool to provide healthcare services, especially for remote and underserved areas. Video conferencing is found to be equivalent to face-to-face consultations in terms of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. However, barriers such as technological issues, lack of reimbursement, and regulatory issues need to be addressed for successful implementation.
The information in the article can be used to help prepare for the virtual family assessment by understanding the benefits and limitations of video conferencing as a tool for delivering telehealth services. This knowledge can help nurses in selecting appropriate technology and preparing for potential technological issues. Additionally, the article highlights the need for regulatory and reimbursement policies to support the use of video conferencing, which is essential for successful implementation.
