Research computing societies’ standards on code of ethics and professional behavior. Include information on how data is presented to consumers and how that information can be made to manipulate consumers.

Ethics and professional behavior for computer professionals refers to set standards that promote good practices within a given profession (Kombo, 2016).
Ethical issues that might affect computer professional comprises of workplace computer related crimes, intellectual property and privacy, professional responsibility, among others.
The computer professional code of ethics exist so as to help computer professionals conduct themselves in an acceptable ethical manner and make the right judgment and decisions during their professional work (Kombo, 2016).
Computer professionals should always be conversant with the laws
touching on their profession without violating them.
As such, computer professional future is heavily dependent on the ethical and professional excellence of its players.
With the internet becoming widespread today and the increased of various social media, it is becoming easier for companies to connect with customers directly and collect the necessary information for their database.
However, the manner in which this data is collected can have some serious ethical consequences, some that might even affect consumer’s lives.
One way data is presented to consumers includes direct marketing where computer professionals engage consumers directly through various platforms like TV, direct mails (Brown, 2017).
Some of the techniques of presenting data to consumer have
often raised ethical concerns because some of them end up violating their rights.
There are many different techniques that can be used by computer professionals to manipulate consumers.
For instance, humor can often be used so as to apply deceptive advertising to promote information or a product that could easily harm the consumers psychological or physically.
Violence and sexuality have also been used by advertises to manipulate consumers and they often raise serious ethical issues especially in situations where children would be affected by the shared content.
In some extreme cases, fraudulent ways to manipulate consumers have been used such as bait and switch technique where consumers are baited into buying a product at low price only to discover later that he product is of low quality or unavailable.
According to the ethical code principles, a computing professional has the responsibility to make their contributions that promote the well being of the society and acknowledges that everyone is a stakeholder in the computing profession (Moor, 2017).
Computer professionals should aim to minimize any negative consequences that might arise from computing
As such, a computer professional personal code of ethics should be considerate of the fact that whether their actions would result promote diversity and encourage socially responsible actions
Sometime though some actions may be well intended, they can cause harm and computing professionals are obliged to mitigate or undo this harm.
This means that computer professionals should avoid harm by carefully considering the potential impact their actions or decisions on the intended personnel.
As such, to minimize incidence of potential harm, compute professionals should carefully evaluate the consequences of their actions and decisions by following the set and acceptable ethical best practices unless otherwise.
Moreover, as a computing professional, there is the obligation to make a report of any signs associated with system risks that could result in harm computer users.
Finally, computer professionals should be trustworthy and honest.
This includes proving full disclosure of a computer’s pertinent system capabilities, potential problems or limitations to the right parties.
Giving misleading information and falsifying data should be considered as a violation of the computing professional ethical code of conduct.
At a personal level, it is necessary for computing professionals to be honest about their limitations on their ability to complete a given task.
One of the key professional behaviors of a computer professional is to strive so as to achieve quality in both of their professional work and processes.
During this process, a computer professional should also make sure that the dignity of their colleagues or clients or anyone else affected by their action is respected.
In addition, computing professionals should be aware of any negative and serious consequences that their customers or relevant stakeholders might suffer from getting work that is of low quality.
Computer professionals should therefore behave n a manner that maintains ethical practice and professional competence of the highest standards.
By having the right technical knowledge and awareness of the context of their work, computing professionals are behaving in a competent manner.
In addition, having the right communication skills and reflective analysis allows computing professionals to navigate any ethical challenges hat might arise during the course of their work.
Finally, professional behavior in professional computing involves knowing and respecting the existing rules on professional work.
This will involved understanding the current local and international laws, procedures and polices within the computing profession.
Though some rules and guidelines are meant to enhance good practice with the computing profession, they can cause harm and therefore computing professionals should challenge such laws using the established legal channels.
Violating a computing rule because it’s unethical means that computing professionals have to be ready to accept the consequences and responsibility that comes with such actions.
From the foregoing, the computer professional code of ethics exist so as to help computer professionals conduct themselves in an acceptable ethical manner and make the right judgment and decisions during their professional work.
