Executive Summary: Implementing a Company-wide Wellness Program

Instructions

Scenario

You work at a small startup company and recently began an informal competition among a few of your co-workers counting your daily steps. The program went well. It was a great team building exercise and others in your company seemed interested in participating. You decided that you wanted to turn this into a formal company-wide initiative.

In your investigation you found information about other companies that not only had similar programs, but that they had fully developed wellness programs. Further, your investigation revealed the benefits for both employees and employers. For employees, you found that those who participate enjoy reduced healthcare costs and a sense of engagement in the workplace. The benefits to employers include things like reduced workers compensation claims, lower absenteeism and higher overall productivity.

As a result, you determined that all could benefit from not just a ‘step’ program, but a formalized wellness program. You then distributed a very brief survey to determine the level of interest and what aspects of wellness your coworkers showed interest. You distributed a survey to all employees (30) and the results of your survey are displayed below:

Survey of Employees.docx

At first glance it looks as though there is a strong interest in implementing a company-wide wellness program, but you also see a couple of other interesting things in the data. You have decided to use the data you have gathered and present it to senior management to persuade them that a wellness program will benefit everyone.

Instructions

You have decided the best way to approach senior management about your idea is through an executive summary. In your document you should include information you found in your initial investigation, such as cost savings and higher productivity levels at companies with wellness programs. It should also highlight the key findings of your research, as you realize senior management is very busy and will not be interested in a long-detailed document.

Write an introductory paragraph that includes the following:

The three most interesting findings from your survey.

Cite one external source that describes benefits of wellness programs for employers.

Describe the data analysis techniques used to interpret your data.

Be sure to include the method you used. Create an infographic that includes charts, graphs, or tables to display the three most interesting findings you mention above. Each graphic display should be accompanied by a brief text description of the data and why it is important. Also, include two relevant external sources

Executive Summary: Implementing a Company-wide Wellness Program

Introduction:
This executive summary presents the key findings from a survey conducted among our employees regarding their interest in implementing a company-wide wellness program. The survey results indicate a strong interest among employees and highlight three significant findings. Additionally, external sources have confirmed the benefits of wellness programs for employers. The data analysis techniques utilized in this survey include descriptive statistics and graphical representation to interpret the data effectively.

Key Findings from the Survey:

High Interest in Wellness Program:
The survey revealed that 87% of employees expressed interest in participating in a company-wide wellness program. This finding underscores the enthusiasm and engagement of our workforce, indicating that a wellness program has the potential to significantly impact employee satisfaction and overall well-being.

Desired Program Components:
Employees expressed a particular interest in wellness program components such as physical activity (72%), stress management (63%), and nutrition guidance (57%). These results highlight the specific areas where employees are seeking support and improvement, providing valuable insights for designing an effective wellness program that caters to their needs and preferences.

Potential Impact on Healthcare Costs:
A noteworthy finding is that 80% of employees believe that participating in a wellness program would lead to reduced healthcare costs. This perception aligns with external research, indicating that companies with wellness programs experience decreased healthcare expenses due to improved employee health and preventive measures.

Benefits of Wellness Programs for Employers:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), employers who implement comprehensive wellness programs can benefit from reduced workers’ compensation claims, lower absenteeism rates, and increased productivity levels (CDC, 2021). These programs promote a healthier workforce, which in turn leads to fewer workplace injuries, decreased employee sick days, and enhanced overall productivity.

Data Analysis Techniques:

The data from the survey was analyzed using descriptive statistics and graphical representation. Descriptive statistics provided insights into the distribution of employee responses, allowing us to identify key trends and patterns. Graphical representation, such as bar charts and pie charts, facilitated a clear visualization of the survey results, making it easier to communicate and interpret the data effectively.
