The purpose of this assignment is for the student to synthesize pharmacological knowledge (i.e., core drug knowledge, core patient variables, and nursing implications) of pharmacotherapeutic agents into a useful teaching and learning tool for nurses and patients.

Course outcomes: This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

CO1 Apply the concepts of pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenomics to the use of specific medication classifications in specific health conditions and in consideration of medication side/adverse effects, nursing implications, and medication teaching. (POs 1, 2, and 3)

CO2 Apply principles of health promotion, as well as illness and injury prevention, to promote safety and effectiveness of commonly used pharmacologic therapy across the lifespan, taking into consideration sociocultural, genetic/genomic, developmental, and gender implications. (POs 3 and 8)

CO3 Utilize the nursing process in understanding the effects of drug therapy on health outcomes across the lifespan within the framework of a diverse population of individuals, families, and communities. (PO 4)

I. Key/Relevant Drug Information (30 points/30%)

Drug Class: Monoclonal Antibody
Mechanism of Action: Binds to both epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) proteins to block cell signaling and inhibit cancer cell growth
Drug Administration and Dosage: Administered via intravenous infusion once every two weeks; dosage is based on body weight
Drug Interactions: No known significant drug interactions
Lab Effects/Interference: None reported
Special Considerations: Patients with pre-existing interstitial lung disease should be closely monitored as the drug may cause exacerbation of the condition
II. Patient Education Considerations (35 points/35%)

Patient Assessment: Patients will need to undergo regular physical exams and blood tests to monitor for any potential side effects or complications
Side Effects/Adverse Effects/Toxicities: Potential side effects include infusion reactions, skin rash, diarrhea, fatigue, and coughing. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as pneumonitis (lung inflammation) and hepatitis (liver inflammation) may occur.
Patient Education Considerations: Patients should report any symptoms to their healthcare provider immediately. They should also avoid taking any new medications or supplements without consulting their healthcare provider first.
Nursing Management: Nurses should closely monitor patients during and after infusions for any signs of infusion reactions. They should also educate patients on the potential side effects and the importance of reporting any symptoms to their healthcare provider.
III. Visual Effects/Creativity (10 points/10%)

The brochure should include appropriate graphics and images to enhance the information presented. The overall design should be visually appealing and appropriate for the intended audience (nurses). The Flesch-Kincaid reading level should be seventh grade or lower.

IV. One Page Paper (15 points/15%)

Intended use of brochure: The purpose of this brochure is to educate nurses on the use of Amivantamab for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. It provides key drug information, patient education considerations, and nursing management strategies.
Revised brochure for low health literacy: If the intended audience had a low health literacy level, the brochure would need to be simplified in terms of language and formatting. The use of visuals and clear headings would be important to help communicate the key information effectively.
V. APA Format (5 points/5%)

The brochure and one-page paper should follow current APA format. No more than three unique errors in APA format should be present.

VI. Writing and Mechanics (5 points/5%)

The brochure and one-page paper should be clearly written with no more than three unique errors in grammar and writing mechanics.
