The movie, “Pay it Forward,” is an inspiring tale about a young boy, Trevor McKinney, who accepts a challenge given to him by a teacher at school and sets out to change the world. He comes across many obstacles along the way, but with perseverance and bravery, he ultimately succeeds in creating a movement that becomes the first step in helping make the world better. Trevor’s world-changing idea is to do favors for three people, and in return, ask them to do favors for three other people each.

This is the idea of “paying it forward. ” When Trevor first introduces this plan, many people dismiss it because of its great naivety and simplicity. In today’s time, mankind has fallen so deep into sin that often times we forget how easy it is to serve others and do good deeds. Trevor’s idea is not a failure, but instead, people fail to see the greatness in it because it sounds so easy; one would only imagine that it would take much more than people doing a few favors to suddenly improve the world.

If I was told to participate in this project, I would admire the idea and even go through with it. However, I would have my doubts as to whether or not other people would respect the idea as well and follow through with it. I believe that people finally become inspired by something when they experience it for themselves. Objectively, pay-it-forward can seem too cheesy. However, when someone does something selfless and charitable for another person for no reason of self-interest, the recipient is often overcome with a great emotion that one feels upon receiving generosity.

The inspiration in this, therefore, is the understanding that humanity has not completely fallen, and that there is still good left in this world. Since the concept entails a chain reaction of kindness, potentially, the favors should touch everyone in the world at least once before it comes around again and continues as a cycle. Therefore, another appropriate name could be Circle of Generosity. Another factor that plays a major part in the success of pay-it-forward is the attention that it is given in the media. The human race is now so technologically advanced that we rely heavily on gadgets such as computers, iPads, and television.

Unless we had the media emphasizing issues or news, we would probably not understand their importance. All in all, “Pay-It-Forward” is a motivational movie that evokes the desire to serve within the hearts of its viewers. Personally, this movie reminded me that there is always good within people, it is just hidden by sin. If we work hard enough collectively to change the world, it is possible.
