Psychology of leadership. Introduction to Assignment
The assessment for module CD7605 is a compulsory part of this module. The assignment is composed of one component outlined below. Strict penalties are applied where work is submitted late and this may result in a fail grade in the module. Failure to submit work for assessment will result in the failure of the module.

You assignment for this module is as follows:

Part 1 A critically reflective essay – 4000 words (+/-10%)
A written document discussing the plausibility of theoretical models pertaining to the psychology of leadership when applied to a current leadership challenge in the workplace

Part 2 – 1000 words (notional)
A personal further reading plan for CPD in the field of leadership psychologies, with rationale. And a personal action plan demonstrating how they will apply relevant psychological approaches to leadership in their future leadership practice.

Reassessment
Where an overall grade of 50% has not been achieved, a reassessment task will be submitted using the same title. Reassessment will be of the whole assignment.

Psychology of leadership

Psychology of leadership is an interdisciplinary field that explores the psychological aspects of leadership, including how leaders think, behave, and interact with others. It encompasses various theoretical models and approaches that attempt to explain the dynamics of leadership, such as trait theory, behavioral theory, contingency theory, transformational theory, and situational theory, among others. This module aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the psychological principles that underlie effective leadership and equip them with the skills and knowledge to apply relevant psychological approaches to leadership in their future practice.

The coursework consists of two parts. The first part is a critically reflective essay that requires students to analyze the plausibility of theoretical models pertaining to the psychology of leadership when applied to a current leadership challenge in the workplace. This involves a critical examination of the assumptions, strengths, and weaknesses of different theoretical perspectives, as well as an evaluation of their applicability to real-world leadership scenarios. Students are expected to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the theoretical concepts and apply them in a meaningful and insightful way to the practical issues of leadership.

The second part of the coursework is a personal further reading plan for continuing professional development (CPD) in the field of leadership psychologies, with a rationale. This involves identifying key areas of interest within the field, developing a strategy for acquiring new knowledge and skills, and articulating the benefits and relevance of this learning to one’s future leadership practice. Additionally, students are required to create a personal action plan that demonstrates how they will apply relevant psychological approaches to leadership in their future practice. This involves setting specific goals, identifying potential obstacles, and outlining strategies for overcoming them.

Overall, this module provides students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the psychology of leadership and to develop their critical thinking and analytical skills in this area. By the end of the module, students should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the key theoretical models and approaches, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practical contexts to enhance their leadership capabilities.
