The use of technology in healthcare has soared over the last handful of decades and has made many advancements. Technology is a great resource in combination with physical aspects in healthcare. Telehealth is the ability to meet with a healthcare provider online without having to go to the healthcare professional’s office (Telehealth.HHS.gov). Not only is telehealth a good public resource but I have also seen telehealth-like technology implemented in some hospitals to keep an eye on patients and provide communication and collaboration between doctors and nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Telehealth can be used by the patient in their home using the internet to connect with their provider. Services offered cover a multitude of areas. There are also resources available for those who do not have internet, do not have insurance, are not sure about using technology for health services and more (Telehealth.HHS.gov). Telehealth being used in the home for evaluations and follow up can help patients in their treatments process, educate patients on their ailments, and can help patients be more aware of when to go physically see a healthcare professional for further help. This could cut time down when it comes to triaging patients and could decrease wait times. Technology is a great resource to use, but it should not completely cut out face-to-face interactions. Collaboration of technology and healthcare professionals’ expertise is more beneficial to a patient.
