Impersonal (Academic Analytic) Style Reflective style (with reflective language
underlined)
In the process of making intercultural
communication, the differences in social
culture need to be considered.
People tend to stereotype others in the
other social culture and this stereotype can
also affect their communication negatively
(Harkness, 2013).
Hofstede (1984) made a comparative study
between eastern and western social culture
and found that the differences can be
categorized into five main aspects which
people need to pay attention to when
communicating with each other.
When I communicate in an intercultural
context, I have learned that I need to consider
the differences in social culture.
This subject has helped me to become much
more aware that people tend to stereotype
others from different social cultures and this
stereotype can also affect my communication
negatively (Harkness, 2013).
As a student from an Eastern culture like
China I am very interested in Hofstede (1984)
who made a comparative study between
eastern and western social culture and found
that there are five categories of difference
that I would need to pay attention to when
communicating with others.
