Assessment Brief

1.The
Dalai Lama has written, “Our planet is blessed with vast natural
treasures. If we use them properly, beginning with elimination of militarism
and war, truly, every human being will be able to live a wealthy,
well-cared-for life.”  The Dalai Lama consistently preaches
non-violence.  Is this realistic?  Is violence ever justified? 
2.Human
beings are a combination of two things, spirit and matter, soul and body. 
The two are distinct.  Do you agree or disagree with this view, shared in
some form by Jainism and Sikhism?  How do you view this concept in
light of what you read in the article, “Photo of Woman With Facial Hair
Leads to Conversation, Understanding”?
3.The
body, as the seat of the senses with its fleshly desires, is often in
opposition to the spirit.  It must be controlled so we can focus on things
of the spirit.  Do you agree or disagree?
