It’s a scenario that addresses couple of problems
- Waiting problems
- Financial problems
- Workflowproblems
So, many issues and there are 2 areas to focus on
- Analysis the problems/issues
There’re couples of clear problems/issues mentioned in the scenario and I want you to talk about them
The best framework to talk and approach these issues/problems;
Bolman & Deals; we use these frame work to analysis our issues and problems (and if you look at Bolamn&Deals it’s pretty straight forward they look at structuralissues, human resource issues and many other issues, the scenario mentions human resources issues along with other issues !!
So you can use the framework to analysis the problems and the problems are all laid out. This should be straight forward.
- The second part in trying to address this issue is to Look at the various decisions that have to be made (so basically ask yourself what decisions have to be made)
Some of the questions that have to be made looking at the scenario are:
- Workforce issues/decision, so focus what’s wrong with workforce? Being understaff (not enough workers) so we think about these issues.
- Strategic/ operation plan? (Lack of plan I put the ? because I’m not sure it has a plan as they obviously have theses issues due to the lack of plan so we’ve a decision regarding the strategic plan and even down to the operation plan), ask yourself is it strategic or is it operation plan? And do they have a strategic plan
So you need to ask yourself these kind of questions so that when I’m marking your essay I can understand where you coming from so if you say for example, I’m not sure if there’s a strategic plan because if there is not one that’s not going to work and you support your claims with references and evidence and why organization should have a strategic plan there are a lot of references out there off which you can use
- Lack of community consultation
They didn’t go out (this particular health service) and have community consultation in this scenario maybe they should have gone out and asked and consult the community what time would be a good one for you to come in? Because this is offering counseling services, so they need to understand the audience basically in terms of the other issues, so it’s all about listening to the audience and to be more patience centric.. .. … and once you understand where they’re coming from you can better understand the issues (their issues) and then try to fix them and have that plan so when look at my operational plan I’ll make sure I keep your ideas and thoughts in mind when I start to work on my operation plan
So, there are few more decisions that you can make
One of a sudden the essay looks to have two parts to it one is to analysis the issues/problems and then you start to do these various decisions.
Now, the other thing that come in mind is that each one of these
- Waiting problems
- Financial problems
Workflow problems
Will require some kind of a decision and according to the question it says you need to utilize some organisational theory (OT)
So the OT will come each and in all the three
- Waiting problems => OT
- Financial problems => OT
Workflow problems=> OT
So, when you look at the workforce understaffing issue is there an organisational theory that you can use to apply to explain that particular decision is there a workforce sort of a theory that you can use (and there is obviously check the world document that contains the lecture noted I summarized)
One of the policy that you can use is demand and supply in labor is actually considered as a conceptyou use to explain the fact that all of a sudden your services that you are offering are understaffed, so you need to pull in more staff.
IS IT AN ISSUE OF DEMAND AND SUPPLY? IS THERE A LACK OF EXPERTY IN THOSE AREAS?
Because what you are offering in this particular case is counseling services?
And once you start to look at all of this here, you can even pull inthe Mintzberg’s stuff (5 elements)(lecture number 3) the Mintzberg’s will come in the OT
You can look at the fact that may be the organization is organic or mechanistic. Remember how becoming organic/mechanistic can actually impact how you make decisions, use those concepts and try to explain those decisions that you have made
1st of all you need to list all the decisions that need to be made in this story
